For De Warmste Week 2025, centered around the theme of "loneliness," I had the honor of creating a piece that reflects both the challenges and the hope surrounding this topic. The artwork is structured around the iconic flame of De Warmste Week, divided into two contrasting halves that portray the duality of loneliness and togetherness.
On the yellow side, loneliness is depicted through intimate and often relatable moments: a person standing alone at a grave, another sitting solitary at a bar, a quiet table without company, an empty bath, and someone watching TV alone. These scenes offer an honest portrayal of how loneliness manifests in everyday life.
The orange side, on the other hand, celebrates togetherness. Here, people gather around the glazen huis, the symbol of De Warmste Week, enjoying performances and finding warmth around a fire. This side radiates hope and connection, reminding us that we can be there for one another.
The two halves are connected by a dividing line where people pass a heart to one another. This gesture symbolizes how small acts of kindness and attention can bridge the gap between loneliness and connection.
With this piece, I hope to spark conversations about loneliness while also inspiring action and solidarity.
